The other day I received an interesting e-mail that I thought I would share with you. The e-mail addressed the question of set backs such as missed workouts and eating food off of your plan. I have posted the Q and A below.

CONGRATULATIONS on your weight loss success!!! If you have the time I had a few questions for you, I was wondering did you ever have any set backs during your weight loss journey ( or during your current maintain) ? Did you completely eliminate your favorite foods or do you eat them in moderation or have you substituted them for something else? Is it realistic to think I'll never miss a work out or I will always eat super healthy?
Thank you,
Jennifer

Jen,
Thank you for the kind words and support. To answer your questions of course I had set backs. I had thousands of them. I am not sure if you saw my segment on the Today Show, but i discussed a moment in which the hunger was too much to bare and caused me to drive to a restaurant to gorge myself. On the way however I thought about how far I had come and the drastic changes I had made. I thought about the feeling of success I would have after I reached my goal and suddenly it didn't seem worth it. The hunger even went away as I whipped my car around and drove home to continue my journey towards change. The funny thing is that even if I had eaten that meal it would have been ok. As long as I got right back on the diet the second after I finished it. No matter how hard we fall there is always a chance for a comeback. My conquering a lifetime of obesity is proof of this.
The example above is only one in which I had to pick myself up and try again. I missed workouts, over ate during meals, and suffered injuries that slowed down my progress. I however pushed through all of this and continued on. I still experience all of these set backs but don't let them keep me down. We will always have good and bad days as long as we live. So expect setbacks during your journey, but also expect greater success that will push you through these set backs. For me personally I eliminated any foods that I thought would hurt my progress. I was just so motivated by the results and focused on my goal that i didn't want these foods. The Nutrisystem had me content with what I was eating and I loved the feeling of knowing that the food I was eating was good for me and would act as fuel for my weight loss. Now however, I allow myself one "cheat meal" a week in which I eat anything I want. I believe I could have done this during my weight loss and suggest that you have this meal occasionally during your weight loss to satisfy your cravings. Just make sure you limit this to one meal and work towards eating until you are full and not binging. Get right back on your regime when you finish the meal and get ready to tackle another week in your journey.
As for workouts of course you are going to miss them whether it is through time constraints, injuries, or just fatigue. I miss workouts all the time. I just make sure to get right back in the gym the next day and continue my routine. Also make sure to allow yourself one full day of rest so that you don't over train. I hope this helped. Good luck in reaching your goals. I know you will be there in no time!
